Besides Amsterdam, Volendam is one of the most famous places in our beautiful Netherlands. Located on the IJsselmeer, Volendam is a very atmospheric village that is certainly worth a visit. Of course you can’t resist tasting the delicious smoked eel that this village is famous for.

Volendam is easily accessible by public transport, but not by train because Volendam has no station. From a tourist point of view, Volendam scorts very high due to the historical costumes and the old fishing boats. In addition, Volendam offers a wealth of souvenir shops, bars and cafes and of course the eel smokers.

  • Did you know that Volendam actually consists of two municipalities, namely Edam and Volendam.
