Alkmaar known for its cheese market
Whoever says Alkmaar, says cheese.
Alkmaar is a municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland. Until the end of 2014, the municipality consisted of the city of Alkmaar, Oudorp and a part of Koedijk. Since 2015, the municipality of Alkmaar also includes the territory of the former municipalities of Schermer and Graft-De Rijp. Alkmaar is known as the cheese city of the Netherlands, but that title only covers part of the load. Because this city in North Holland has much more to offer. There is the beautiful old town center with plenty of monuments, nice shopping areas and countless cozy terraces, cafes and restaurants in all price ranges. There is also great shopping, the Stedelijk Museum, the Beer Museum, the Beatles Museum and of course the Cheese Museum. And if you just want to get out of the city, then you are on the beach or in the dunes within fifteen minutes.
